Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi today launched its latest budget smartphone Redmi 5A in India. Redmi 5A is the successor of the Redmi 4A that was launched last year. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with similar specifications as its predecessor.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A was launched in China in October with a price tag of CNY 599. The smartphone is priced in India starting at Rs. 5,999 and will be available from 7th December on Flipkart and Mi.com.

As an appreciation for its fans in India, Xiaomi has revealed that it will be offering the Redmi 5A at a discount of Rs. 1,000 for the first 5 million customers, effectively bringing down the price to Rs. 4,999 for the 2GB version.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A Specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 skinned on top. The smartphone features a 5 inch HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of ~294 PPI.

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A is powered by a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.4GHz and Adreno 308 GPU. The device comes with 2GB or 3GB RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. 

The smartphone comes with a dedicated microSD card slot, so you can use two SIM cards and a microSD card simultaneously.

Coming to the camera department, the device features a 13MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash. The camera comes with features such as PDAF, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. On the front, the device sports a 5MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Infrared port, microUSB 2.0 and FM Radio.

Xiaomi has priced the Redmi 5A very competitively starting at Rs. 4,999 for the 2GB/16GB version and Rs. 6,999 for the 3GB/32GB version. 

The device will be available exclusively on in Gold and Dark Grey color options.

Additionally, Xiaomi is also offering a cashback of Rs. 1,000 for Jio users after 12 months in addition to the Rs. 1,000 discount for first 5 million customers.

Gionee is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer had unveiled eight smartphones including six new phones, namely, the Gionee S11, Gionee S11s, Gionee S11 Lite (F6), Gionee M7 Plus, Gionee M7 mini and Gionee F205 at a global event in China. The other two phones being the Gionee M7 and Gionee M7 Power that were introduced back in September.

All these phones are part of Gionee’s Winter 2017 line-up, with Gionee S11s being the flagship. While the smartphones differ in many ways including the price, they all have one common feature, they come with full-screen displays and minimal bezels.

Gionee M7 and M7 Power were already launched in China. The M7 Power was launched in India as well earlier this month. Now, as per the company, all these smartphones will be sold worldwide.

Gionee S11s Specifications

The flagship Gionee S11s is powered by a 2.3GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P30 processor with ARM Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. It comes with a  6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB with microSD card. 

The smartphone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Amigo OS 5.0 on top.

The Gionee S11s comes with a 6.01-inch (2160 × 1080 pixels) FHD+ FullView AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display with 18:9 aspect ratio. 

Dimensions wise it measure 153.75 × 72.6 × 7.85 mm and weighs 141g.

Coming to the camera department, there is a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP primary camera, dual-tone LED flash and an 8MP secondary camera. On the front, there is another dual camera setup with 20MP+8MP cameras. Below the rear camera setup, there is a fingerprint sensor.

Connectivity options include a 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4 + 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS.

Gionee S11 Specifications

The flagship Gionee S11s is powered by a 2.3GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P23 16nm processor with Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. It comes with a 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB with microSD card. 

The smartphone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Amigo OS 5.0 on top.

The Gionee S11 comes with a 5.99-inch (2160 × 1080 pixels) FHD+ FullView IPS 2.5D curved glass display. Dimensions wise it measure 159.5 × 77.7 × 7.8mm and weighs 165g.

Coming to the camera department, there is a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP primary camera, dual-tone LED flash and an 8MP secondary camera. On the front, there is another dual camera setup with 16MP+5MP cameras. Below the rear camera setup, there is a fingerprint sensor.

The Gionee F205 comes with 5.45-inch (1440 x 720 pixels) HD+ 2.5D curved glass display.

Coming to the camera department, there is a 8MP rear camera LED flash and an 8MP secondary camera. On the front, there is 5MP front-facing camera.

Price and Availability

The Gionee M7 Plus is priced the highest at CNY 4,399 (roughly Rs 43,000). The flagship Gionee S11s is priced at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs 32,300). The Gionee S11 costs CNY 1,799 (Rs 17,600 approx.) while the S11 Lite or Gionee F6 is priced at CNY 1,299 (roughly Rs 12,700).

The Gionee M7 Mini is priced at CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs 13,700). And the Gionee F 205 is the cheapest among all and priced at CNY 999 (roughly Rs 9,700). The phone will be made available from late December 2017.

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has announced the brand-new mid-range smartphone in the A-series in its home country, dubbed as the Oppo A79. The smartphone has a 6-inch full HD+ 18:9 full-screen AMOLED display with 86% screen-to-body ratio and a 16MP selfie camera. The smartphone is priced at 2,399 yuan (Rs. 23,400 approx.) and available for pre-order in China.

Oppo had recently launched three new full-screen display phones in China including the Oppo F5 that was also launched in India earlier this month. Now, the Oppo A79 has almost similar specifications to the OPPO F5, including a MediaTek Helio P23 processor, and 16MP rear camera and face unlock feature which Oppo claims to be as fast as 0.18 seconds.

Oppo A79 features a 6-inch FHD+ (2160 × 1080 pixels) 18:9 ratio full-screen AMOLED display with 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The dual SIM phone runs Android 7.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.2.

Coming to the hardware department, the Oppo A79 is powered by a 2.5GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P23 processor with Mali G71 MP2 GPU.

In terms of storage, the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB with microSD card.

In terms of camera, the device sports a 16MP rear camera with LED flash and f/1.8 aperture. On the front, there is a 16MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture. There is a fingerprint sensor below the rear camera module for security.

Connectivity options on the phone include, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. Dimension wise it measures 157.3 x 76 x 7.2mm and weighs 140g.

The Oppo A79 is powered by a 3000mAh built-in battery with VOOC flash charge support.

The OPPO A79 is priced at 2,399 yuan (Rs. 23,400 approx.). 

The device comes in Champagne Gold, Black and Blue color options and is now available for pre-order in China and shipping to start from December 1. There is no word on its availability in India.
